Same old topic!

Weddings to attend:

1. August 18th - family friend and school mate's wedding.
2. August 20th- College friend's marriage
Also August 20th- I turn 25. ( I doubt my family will celebrate)
3. Auguest 29th- Another college friend's marriage
4. Sept sometime- ex-boyfriend plans to elope with his girlfriend. (No, I'm not going for this one)
4. Dec sometime - family friend's marriage who is a year younger to me.

Dunno if i'll have to add onto that, but the way things are going, I may not have a single friend left. Oh wait, I don't! (online friends don't count, I can't point at their IM window and tell my mum, see, HE'S still not married!)

It's kinda depressing when your parents look at like you like an unfinished chore.

But what am I supposed to do huh?
My mum comes up to me and says "5"8, software engineer, UK-based, salary- $$$% p.a., mum - retired lecturer, dad- banker, are you interested?"

What the hell am I supposed to say to that huh?

If someone tells me "your time will come" or some such shit I'll ...I'll... I dunno, scream with frustration (again) I guess.

I mean, this state of not being married is not a disease you know.
But with the way everyone's going on about it, it's completely depressing.

It's not like I don't wanna get married, I do!
But for the right reasons ( like love).
But cos everyone round me is running round tying the knot, I'm feeling all left out and depressed and I'm beginning to feel like everyone else is right, that there won't be ( worse, there isn't) anyone who would wanna marry me.

God! What the fuck is gonna happen to me?!

Welcome back, Sonia...

Don't give in until you know you are ready since it is not only your life that is going to be affected. Marry in haste, repent at leisure and all that.

Nice to see your post again. And don't worry about the future.

I can see your frustration; counter stops at 4?!! it is not incrementing. Just kidding :-)

I am waiting to see your blog with "At last its my turn" ...

Best of Luck.
YASJ

apologies for being blatantly blunt...i guess i was a bit drunk then...peace.

Sonia said...

FR: cribbing is what this blog is for after all! and yeah, unfortunately, online people do not count.

peace guy: blatantly drunk or not, you're still anonymous dude.

mahout: nope, i won't give in. i'm too scared to do that.

yasj: there's no "at last" or anything. i'm fine single. i have a life. it's just that everyone going on and on about marriage is freakin me out.

Gimmee a break. I'm 136 and still single. This happens when you don't settle... for things like liars, emotional abusives, knee huggers, bad lays and assorted other flaws that are un-overlookable. Since I believe you to be approximately 110 years younger than I am, I ask: What's your hurry?
Glad to see you writing again... and BTW, since I met the guy I'm dating completely by accident, unexpected and weirdly through my blog... I'd say that yes, indeed, online people do count.

Sherry: you don't live with your parents. You don't live in a society where everyone thinks there's something unnatural about not being married at 24. I know there's nothing wrong with me, but it's just so hard to live amongst people who do. and i cannot leave. leaving dubai, at least for now, is not an option.
the people i met online and chat with are my ONLY relief, they matter a LOT to me! but i can't really explain that to my mum can i?

How can I say anything to your mom when my mom does the same. I suffer the same as you, and I am sure so many other girls do too...Only you should be grateful that your folks don't force you into anything. I am.

1 quick Q: wud u have got on the plane with victor laszlo (paul henreid) if u were ilsa lund (ingrid bergman)???
peace.

Sonia said...

lost in trance: you'll send tickets ? ;oP

AB: no one can force you unless you let them. Parents want us to be happy on their terms, which is usually not possible. one of my friends mentioned in the list above is not getting married cos she wants to, she is getting married cos she "can't stand to see her parents so sad" anymore.

I'm happy being single yar!

Anoop: yes it is. We just gotta try and do what we can to make things better.

Peace guy: you're sad now, if you met me, you'd be sadder! :)

and the only character I can identify with right now is that female from Elizabethtown when she calls herself "the substitute girl"

Anonymous said...

wut if i'm willing to take the risk?...u aint any substitute girl...thrs no failure or fiasco...but yeh, u r hard to remember, but impossible to forget...
peace.

Sonia said...

what risk?you're anonymous

Look at it as a fun way to meet people you wouldn't normally meet @"5'8, software engineer, UK-based, salary- $$$% p.a., mum - retired lecturer, dad- banker" :)

Sonia said...

got here through SV's blog..very interesting post...is there ever a right reason for getting married...my point is whats ex-ante efficient might not be ex-post efficient and the sad part is we cannot peek into the future before deciding now....now for the fact that your circle is shrinking coz they are getting married...thats a classic case of information cascades affecting our thought processes..hehe i guess you are worse off becoz everybody is disclosing their information with respect to their marriages...but the truth is the group as a whole (you are your friends) are happy if each one of you pay far less attention to this piece of information...
